Simple inputs. Useful math.
TransferTime turns file size, connection speed, and optional bandwidth utilization into an estimated duration. Decimal and binary file units help you match the numbers you already have.
Built to stay in your browser.
All calculations run on your device. You do not upload a file, create an account, or connect to a service. The calculator uses no paid APIs, analytics, or external resources.
What this tool is for
Estimate the theoretical time for a large download, an upload, or a backup transfer. Compare connection speeds, check the difference between GB and GiB, or see how reduced bandwidth changes the wait.
The formula is transparent: convert bytes to bits, then divide by the effective bits per second. The guide explains each step and lists every supported unit.
What the estimate can tell you
The result is a baseline for planning. It assumes a constant effective transfer speed. TransferTime does not test your connection, inspect your files, or predict real-time network conditions. Overhead, congestion, Wi-Fi quality, server limits, and interruptions can add time.
The utilization control lets you explore reduced bandwidth. Its percentage is your assumption; the tool does not measure it.
A small validation project
TransferTime is an early project built to validate a practical browser tool. Its commercial demand has not been established. It is available as a simple calculator with no payment or sign-up.
Transparent by design
Each result shows the inputs and formula. Readable durations are rounded for convenience, and the separate seconds value preserves the calculation. Inputs that cannot produce a finite, meaningful result are rejected. You can copy the result for your own notes.
